From the Paper:"This essay examines the significance of the Neolithic Revolution in terms of its impact on human history and the sweeping changes itset in motion, bringing an end to the biological evolution of the human species and inaugurating the process of cultural evolution, thus facilitating the rise to dominance of the human species on the planet. The essayexamines the various changes brought about by the Neolithic Revolution in terms of five broad categories: (1) changes in social structure; (2) changes in human health and nutrition; (3) the emergence of the notion of rights and a legal system to guarantee them; (4) the emergence of economic structures; and (5) the emergence of organized religion. All these changes are seen as stemming from the switch from nomadism to sedentism, a switch that was necessitated by the development of agriculture and animal husbandry. The essay concludes with the recognition that given the far-reaching consequences of the Neolithic Revolution and the fact that it brought about a drastic alteration in the course of human history, it is assuredly deserving of the title "revolution." It is undoubtedlyworthy of being assessed as the most significant development in the history of the human race on account of its introduction of a vitally fundamental concept, namely, that the path to human dominance and survival on this planet lies in the conscious manipulation of the forces of nature for human purposes."
