My own personal experiences and beliefs have influenced my sense of self more than the texts covered in this course, but these texts have provided some valuable insights into the psychological and environmental factors which help determine how one's sense of self develops and sustains itself. In Cathedral, "The Fat Girl", and "Rules of the Game" the sense of self of each character is influenced by their own personal perception of themselves, but also by the roles they are expected to play because of heritage, family, group, and societal expectations.
