"The ancient Roman Republic, which was established with the expulsion of the last Etruscan king in 509 BCE and ended around 31 BCE with the start of the Roman Empire, was generally very successful, but especially toward its fall was plagued by internal and external conflict which would lead to the necessity of an Empire. When looking at an achievement of the Roman Republic such as its expansion of great amounts of territory, one can see that one main element the Roman Republic lacked was centralized power.
