From the Paper:

"The National Black Feminist Organization (NBFO) was organized in response to the issues that Black women believed were not being addressed in relation to their lives. In the feminist movement Black women believed that they were being "racially oppressed". In the civil rights movement, women believed that their concerns as women were being overlooked because of gender. The women that began the NBFO wanted to establish factual information about race, gender and social class inequalities that existed in regard to their lives. The primary factor influencing the women of this organization was equality. In the civil rights movement Black women believed that the purpose was to ensure the freedom and equality of the Black male. Black males aided in the reality of this inequality through their views on sexuality and their degrading comments."
