"The seven bases of power are reward, punishment, legitimate, expert, information, and connection. The use of these seven bases of power enables the nurse to shift this unequal relationship to some degree. Every nurse must, at some time, deal with individuals who are not nurses and still affect patient care. Some of these people are family members or are people with that share a relationship with the patient outside of the care facility.
