Media and Unhealthy Eating The role of the media is to entertain, engage, influence and to sell advertising. Print and screen media such as television, movies and magazines, has always had a very influential role in society by creating images and ideals in which we compare ourselves to, in marketing and advertising products/services and in the social norms it conveys. Children and young adolescent women are among those most susceptible to advertising and are most likely to compare themselves to the images and ideals conveyed in the media.
