"Organizational structure can be described in different ways, beginning with the type of business structure from a legal standpoint. The way a business is structured is defined in terms of the type of agreement by which that business has been formed. Goetting and Morrow (2002) note, "Regardless of the product or service provided, every business owner needs to decide what form of business organization is most appropriate" (para. 2). Business owners have to select from among the legal forms of business--sole proprietorship, partnership, cooperative, or corporation. The sole proprietorship is small and has the advantage of freedom because the owner is answerable to no one but him or herself. The owner is also the one who reaps the rewards of success or the penalties of failure. They are also simple to form and have low start-up costs."
