This paper explores missionary activity from a perspective of history and education. The author examines the long historical existence of missionary activity. Yet, individuals such as Thomas Groome (1982) have contended that many modern teaching attempts in relation to religion neglect to include the learner in the process of discussing faith, and that a "shared praxis" in which religious discussion is a communication between the educator and learner leads to universal understanding among individuals of all faiths.
