This paper offers various suggestions to college students of how to recognize stressful situations and how to deal with these situations. A description of stress is provided. The paper explains that the college student needs to learn to deal with stress effectively in order to prevent it from leading to anxiety. For most college students, this can be achieved by being aware of the nature of stress and anxiety and learning to manage stress effectively.
From the Paper:"College is a time when students are under constant pressure, with exams, assignments and quizzes constantly occurring and students experiencing constant pressure to perform. This pressure can be enhanced because of the social pressures associated with college, the pressures of working as well as attending college and the stress caused by the nature of the experience as something new and different. While this is a time of stress and pressure, this does not need to be a time of anxiety. Stress is a natural product of a person's impact with their environment and rather than being a negative thing, it can actually be a positive thing. Anxiety occurs when the stress has a negative impact, with this capable of leading to a spiral effect where the anxiety makes the situation worse, thus increasing the stress, which in turn increases the anxiety."
