From the Paper:
"African American Women and Religion The religious experience of African Americans has been an important part of daily life since African slaves were first brought to the Americas, as religion was important to Africans in their homelands before being brought west. The role of the church has been well documented in the African American struggle for freedom in the United States, but the role of the church and religion in the individual lives of those African Americans, especially women, has been less discussed in the literature. This paper will examine some of the effects religion and church structure has affected African American women, in their concepts of self, relationship to family and community, their role in their religious organizations, as well as their overall success in the world at large."Cite this Essay:
