This paper examines how, within the work, "A Force for Change: How Leadership Differs from Management", John P. Kotter expresses the dynamic sense of a management style that includes and practices the principles of leadership. It looks at how, according to Kotter, there is a need for change that should include the application of the fundamental holistic and humanistic aspects of leadership within the framework of the practical application of the bottom-line, sometimes harsh, management style that has been stressed in the past.

The view stresses accountability and productivity over personal strengths and choice. "Planning and Budgeting--establishing detailed steps and timetables for achieving needed results, and then allocating the resources necessary to make that happen". (pg. 6) Though the two styles can be largely associated with the semantics of the description the comparative leadership style is descriptive of a humanistic approach to productivity."
