Description:

The most discussed topic in the early weeks of April 2014 was about a security flaw called as the Heartbleed bug. The Heartbleed bug is a bug in the widely adopted technology to encrypt the communication and access to websites in the Internet called as OpenSSL. The hackers can exploit this flaw in the encryption logic to steal valuable customer information or other confidential information. This report covers how the Heartbleed bug came into existence, how the bug was detected, vulnerability caused by the bug, who were the affected parties and what could be done to prevent such risks and bugs in the future

From the Paper:

"Though the Heartbleed bug has been fixed, millions of systems, user account are still vulnerable either because the patch has not been installed or because programmers have not identified all the systems and applications that use the defective OpenSSL version. This bug has once again shown us how weak our communication and encryption systems are. The only way to prevent such bugs in the future is to prevent such human mistakes. Though OpenSSL has been widely used, there are not many sponsors for the OpenSSL community. The Heartbleed bug is a human error which could have been prevented if the code had been properly tested and reviewed. More developers and Corporations should support the OpenSSL community in order to prevent such bugs from appearing again. "
