This paper looks at the early life and career of Gabrielle Giffords, Arizona's representative for its 8th congressional district. It also looks at the assassination attempt made against her in January of 2011 and her rehabilitation in the year since.
From the Paper:"The shooting set off a firestorm across the political spectrum, with many people on the Left stating that the violent rhetoric and gun policies of the Right had led to the shooting. Former vice-presidential candidate and Alaskan governor, Sarah Palin, took a significant amount of the wrath, due to the fact that her website had published a map of the United States with targeting sights over districts of the representatives she wanted removed from office. This image, along with what some saw as her violent rhetoric, led many to suggest that she was directly responsible for the assassination attempt. After settling down a bit, the controversy was reignited when the Pima county Reuplican Committee decided to publicly auction off a Glock firearm to raise money. This was the same type of firearm used in the shooting; critics viewed this move by the region's Right as a classic example of their lack of sensitivity to gun-related deaths and on gun control. (N/A, 2011)"
