"A debate has developed on the issue of Regionalization vs. Mutual Aid in the fire service. Mutual Aid has been in use in many communities for some time. It is in keeping with communities taking care of their own needs, while Regionalization seeks to reduce certain limitations casued by city and even county boundaries and spread the responsibility over a wider area, assuming this is more efficient. While regionalization offers some benefits, it also creates some problems that need to be considered more fully in the move to change the system.
