From the Paper:

"Most postmen spend their days delivering mail and fending off barking dogs, but there was one postman in particular who did more than just deliver mail. He delivered an Ideal Palace out of inspirational vision. This visionary environment outsider artist was Ferdinand Cheval.
"Cheval was born in 1836 in Charmes-sur-l'herbasse, France, the son of a peasant farmer. He achieved a primary school education and most likely dropped out to become a baker's apprentice. When he was 21 he fled to Hauterives, France to marry. Shortly after, he bore a son. During this period, Cheval had visions of a magical and fantastical castle made of rock in some faraway land. Soon after, he disappeared. No one knew what happened to him during this time. By some accounts, he walked all the way to Algeria and fought in the war. In other accounts, he decided to travel and see the world."
