In this story, Bec brings her friend Liz a gift from her travels to Thailand. As soon as Liz gets the present, she seems to fall into an unfortunate period of bad luck. The suspenseful story ends with an unexpected twist.
From the Paper:"I have always wanted to travel, so when I was offered a work experience placement in Thailand (somewhere I had fancied going since watching The Beach), I grabbed it with both hands. I suppose now is a good time to introduce myself (listening to 'I' talking and not knowing who 'I' is would probably be very irritating for you). My name is Rebecca (well that's what I was christened as), but most people call me Bec. I reached the grand old age of 20 last week (spent my birthday on the beach, jealous?). For the past two months I have been working as a holiday representative (that's rep to you and me) at The Sea Breeze Hotel here in Phuket but today is my last day, I fly back to London tomorrow night to start a new term at university. I am studying for a Leisure and Tourism degree and would eventually like to run my own hotel. I bet I'm sounding really independent but I will let you into a little secret, I'm really homesick and I miss my best mate Liz, and although Thailand's beautiful, I can't wait to be home. It's Liz's birthday next week, so tomorrow I'm going to find her the best present ever!"
