This paper compares and contrasts the Vietnam War with both World War I and World War II, looking at the causes, reasons for participation, military tactics and propaganda of each war. The paper also considers the winners and losers of these three terrible wars.

From the Paper:

"It is obvious why the Vietnam War was a direct conflict of ideologies. North Vietnamese were ardent followers of Communism whilst the South was a proponent of capitalism. This resulted in their being involved in a civil war in which the North emerged victorious. As compared to this the First World War was fought because of fear of the German Empire's European and colonial ambitions since its defeat of France in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-71 and so tensions among European powers were expressed by the formation of the Triple Alliance of Germany and Austria-Hungary and Italy and also the Triple Entente. However the immediate cause of the war lay in the conflict of interests between Russia and Austria-Hungary in the Balkans. The Second World War on the other hand was caused by the failure of the Paris Peace Conference to provide for the maintenance of international security after the First World War and by the territorial ambitions of Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler.
"US participation in the Vietnam War can also be termed as a proxy war. The country used another territory to fight its own war on the basis of political differences (the main bone of contention being with former USSR). Not only this but it was fearful of the spread of Communism in South-east Asia and so attempted to control the situation by direct participation."
