From the Paper:

"Jean Piaget was a 20th century psychologist whose primary contributions to the field of psychology were the aspects of cognitive psychology that he conceived to describe the four separate periods of human cognitive development. Specifically, Piaget first noticed characteristic patterns of incorrect test responses to certain types of diagnostic tests used within early education. In that regard, children of certain ages exhibited a complete inability to grasp certain concepts of spatial relationships, even after detailed explanation by adults (Gerrig & Zimbardo, 2005)."
