The paper explores the sociological issues within China and Canada that affect students' quality of education, as well as their upward mobility. The paper discusses how, in China, the prime constraint is that of economic and social status, the amount of money and occupation of the patron of the family. The paper then looks at Canada where the primary discerning factor of educational superiority is the initial language spoken by the citizen, whether it is English, French, or a third language. The paper notes, however, that in both countries, the situation has improved with the flow of time.
From the Paper:"A sociological issue that affects both China and Canada is that of education, the means through which the children of today are transformed into the contributing members of society for the future. The prime issue related to education in regards to China is that of class status, while that of Canada is also in relation to cultural standards, namely the differences between three language demographics within the country. The perspective assumed throughout this analysis of the educational situation within the societies of China and Canada will be a comparative approach focusing upon the achievement capacity of the population. What factors influence the ability of the citizens to attain an education?"
