"Canada and the United States have one primary similarity. They are both established as democracies. Additionally, they are both declared as federal states. However, there are numerous differences between the two. The primary difference is in the way the two conduct their government. Canada and America govern themselves in two completely different manners. (Weaver and Rockman)"The differences between the United States and Canada are fundamental. For example, the United States consists of one basic language. Meanwhile, Canada is made up of two basic languages. There is one reason for this. The Fathers of Confederation intentionally made this decision. (Keating)
"The official recognition of the two languages for Canada is limited. However, it is expanding. New Brunswick, for example, made a special request that government embrace French and English as the sanctioned languages of the particular province be enshrined in the Constitution. (Lipset) The second largest number of French speaking people, located in Ontario, has established schools for French. They have also established a growing assortment of services in French. Numerous Canadian provinces have made similar provisions. (Weaver and Rockman) Nevertheless, each province is able to have as many sanctioned languages as it wishes. Quebec, Manitoba, and New Brunswick is not included in this list. The provinces are able to exclude English and French if they desire. (Keating) Nova Scotia provides an example of this situation. Nova Scotia has multiple languages, and can make Gaelic or any other language it's official language if they desire. Ukrainian, Polish, and Classic Greek could be the official three languages of Alberta if desired. Quebec, Manitoba, and New Brunswick could do the same, but they must keep English and French as primary languages as well. (Keating)"
