"The Great Depression is the name given to that period in U.S. History when America suffered it's worst economic collapse. This period is seen as the years between October 24, 1929 or "Black Thursday" when the Stock Market crashed and December 7th, 1942 when the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor signaled America's entrance into World War II. There were many causes of the Great Depression and many effects, both upon the United States and the rest of the world.
