I set up the consultation by emphasizing the confidentiality of information to parents so that they agreed to allow their son to be my youth partner. The youth is 19 years of age and is from Africa. He lives with his mother, stepfather, and two siblings. Akwasi (a pseudonym) had a friend who died as a result of abuse and exploitation and he himself is a victim of abuse. I explained that all information to be gathered is for my nursing assignment and that his name would never be used. I also explained that the purpose of the project related to children's rights. I then assured him of confidentiality and he consented to do the interview.
