"This paper will explore the hospital experience of an adolescent who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, which involves many psychosocial issues. Type 1 diabetes, formerly known as juvenile diabetes, is a disease where the body does not produce insulin and is normally diagnosed only in children and young adults (Ivey & Wright, 2009). This participant was referred to me for two reasons by a nurse who is a friend of mine. Mark (a pseudonym) is very intelligent and articulate and also needed to tell his story.
