Introduction
The current work analyzes the occurrence of the colonization of Australia by the Europeans and the consequences that this had on the lives and the health of the Aboriginal people, the Indigenous natives of the land. In the context of the colonization, the culture of the Aboriginal people is reviewed together with the stereotyping by the colonialists, as well as the contemporary health issues in the present time that emanated from the colonial rule. Further, the paper describes the biomedical and the social models of care, together with the transcultural theory of health that emphasizes consideration of the cultural values, beliefs and practices of an individual in the provision of health care. The concepts and theories discussed here are then applied in the management of the case of Rodney, the patient in the case study that forms the basis of this paper.
