This paper is a fictional case study created by the writer. It features various workers who have various issues that a counselor may have to understand or deal if addressing each person. The paper proffers as an example the character Maria Visionaria, and how she portrays all the characteristics of "workaholism". The writer then diagnoses certain issues and addresses how a counselor, or social psychologist, would approach the issue.

Executive Assistant - Roger
Chief Executive Officer - Maria Visionaria
Chief Operating Officer - Mujibar Delhi
Chief Financial Officer - Wanda Sharp

From the Paper:

"The CEO is a highly driven individual, motivated by achievement, and her style of working and living meet many of the formal criteria for compulsion (Gerrig & Zimbardo, 2007) that manifests itself in what is frequently described colloquially as "workaholism." Counseling her requires an understanding that her professional drive is likely attributable to personal psychological issues more complex than can be identified, analyzed, and examined in the context of this short-term counseling program.
"At least for the relatively short-term, the best approach should focus on helping her recognize the degree to which elements of her professional style and leadership messages are detrimental to her (admitted) primary concern in life. Likewise, since any direct suggestion that changes are necessitated for the benefit of her personal health tend only to elicit martyr-like responses and restatements of her commitment to her career at WMW, inc., even the issue of bona fide health concerns should be presented within the same strategic context. Therefore, issues relating to her health should be addressed in terms of their potential to undermine her primary concern with career and company instead of in more "personal" terms of her medical health and physical condition."
