This paper compares two very dissimilar travelogues in Caryl Phillips' "The European Tribe" and Karen Connolly's "Touch the Dragon - a Thai Journal" indicating how the former informs the reader of different places, as well as provides an over-riding conclusion for reflection. The second is poetic, personal and tells far more about a rather self-important Canadian young woman than about Thailand where she was a teenage exchange student for a year.
