Description:

This paper examines the battle of emotions and reasoning in William Shakespeare's play, "Hamlet." It shows how the play focuses on the need for rational control of emotion and the consequences for the characters allowing their emotions get the better of them. The paper concludes that the play, "Hamlet" shows that if someone is unable to control his emotions by reason he will eventually face death or suffer negative consequences as a result of that way of thinking.

From the Paper:

"In the end you could say the characters let their emotions get the best of them, all except Horatio who remains the sole surviving main character. Thinking inside the brain can provoke emotion, these emotions can get out of hand unless they are controlled by properly ordered thinking. This means that the responsibility of thought is to recognize the emotional consequences of its own activity (Levy p. 94). The play Hamlet shows that if a man or a woman is not able to control their emotions by reason then they will eventually die or suffer negative consequences as a result of that way of thinking."
