From the Paper:"Chapter 1 addresses the early historical perspectives related to the counseling profession. One of the first persons identified by the authors is Frank Parsons. He is given credit for leading the way into vocational guidance. Capuzzi and Gross (2005) write, Parsons developed a plan for individualized counseling and opened the Vocational Bureau of Boston in January 1908. The authors also identify three activities that counselors use to become credentialed in the field of professional counseling. The three activities are accreditation, certification, and licensure. The authors also identify several work settings that a professional counselor can choose. These settings include school counselor, community based services, business and industry, and private practice.
