Description:
The paper looks at how Fletcher (2005) discusses the concern that there has been consistent degradation of technology in the schools by the media (p. 6). The paper discusses how Fletcher (2005) cites several examples of the media attacking the concept of technology in the classroom, including the issue of many schools purchasing millions of dollars worth of computer equipment that has gone unused in the public schools (p. 6). The paper discusses Fletcher's (2005) point in the article, that those that support the use of technology in the classroom must become actively involved in educating others about the positive aspects of educational technology as a means of addressing the issue (p. 6). The writer asserts that it is his personal viewpoint that this assertion related to educational technology is absolutely correct, however, Fletcher's suggestions for action only include defining why the use of technology in education is important, promoting success stories about technology in education and using the media to spread the success stories that are gathered (p. 6). The writer suggests that these actions are not sufficient and that training in educational technology is the most significant step in alleviating negativism about its inclusion in the schools than less extensive actions.
