Description:

The paper describes a study that summarizes findings of 19 studies of smoke-free workplaces (SFWs) in order to determine the impact of smoke-free workplace laws on smoking levels. The paper explains that the methodology involved deriving data from 19 studies located through a Medline search of scholarly literature from 1986 to 1996 in two countries - the US and Australia - that dealt with SFWs with total bans on smoking, and impacts on smoking over 24-hour periods. The paper explains that the results are that SFWs are responsible for a 1.8% decline in the Australian cigarette market, and a 2% decline in the US market, between 1988 and 1994-95.
