Description:
This paper argues that, while modern technology definitely comes with its advantages, it can still have negative consequences if not used prudently and responsibly.
From the Paper:
"The world that we live in today is a world of technology. The advancement of different nations depends mainly on their technological abilities. Thus, between the USA and Japan we can witness a technological war, with each country trying to achieve superiority over the other in the various areas of technology. The reason why these two nations, for instance, are so concerned with technological development is that technology is currently "deemed critical to commercial might and economic growth" (Dentzer 54). As the Prime Minister of Britain, Tony Blair recently said in support of the economic effects of adopting technology, "The prize of this new information age is to engage our country fully in the ambition and opportunity which the digital revolution offers. The prize is there for the taking. We must stretch out our hands and grab it" (qtd. in De Miranda and Kristiansen 3). In trying to examine why technology should be of such great importance, motivating Prime Minister Blair to speak publicly in its support and how it is related to economic growth, we should remember that it cuts down on production costs. That is, the main aim of technology is to cut down on production costs in industries and factories as well as improve the quality of goods. As a result, however, human workers are replaced by machines in many cases (Cyret and Mowrey 56). This trend makes us ask one very important question: is technological advancement coming at the cost of human beings? Despite the fact that technology has had positive effects in terms of better quality goods, more efficient services, and greater time-efficiency in completing tasks, it has had tremendously negative impact on employment levels and many tools of technology expose users to serious health hazards."Cite this Argumentative Essay:
