Description:

The paper argues that gun control simply does not and will not work. The paper then discusses the unequal treatment of the media on gun violence and gun control and contends that massive media attention was given to the Columbine massacre but no one paid much attention to the acts of law abiding gun owners who put a stop to the crime as a result of their legal gun ownership. The paper maintains that the right to self-defense is a fundamental human right, and, legislating stricter gun controls will never solve the problems of criminality.

From the Paper:

"Guns, gun control and gun ownership have truly been a hotly debated ever since the ratification of the United States Constitution. The foremost issue of which is the interpretation of the Second Amendment of the Constitution that states: "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." For the pro gun control group, the understanding is "an inside the box" thinking whereby bearing arms is an exclusive milieu of the military and police forces - or for that matter the militia, which nowadays are the national guardsman of different states. The anti gun control group, however think otherwise. They argue that gun control and gun ownership, when limited or curtailed by federal regulations, stamps on the individual rights and freedom of American citizens; thus, contravening the essence , form and substance of the Second Amendment. Two opposing factions are especially vocal about the issue: "the most visible group that is against more federal regulations is the National Rifle Association (NRA). The most visible group that is in favor of more federal regulations is Handgun Control (the Brady Center), along with its affiliate organization, the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence. (Adams, 2008)""
