Description:
This paper argues in favor of revamping the US healthcare system with customer driven health care as a potential solution to the current crisis. First, the paper underscores the current health care problems in the US, citing the numbers of uninsured Americans and the difficulty for many, including insured, to access quality health care. Then, the paper describes the customer driven health care and how it differs from the current system. It further notes the benefits of this system, particularly that it can produce significant savings without adversely affecting member health status. The paper concludes with the author stating his personal opinion supporting customer driven health care because it provides quality coverage at an affordable price.
From the Paper:
"So, what's our saving grace? Customer-driven health care, also known as consumer driven health care, is a plan and an opportunity for Americans to finally get the affordable health insurance coverage. While consumer driven health plans are not a holy grail or a silver bullet, it is a proven option to enable Americans to have access to quality affordable healthcare. Some oppose it, even going as far as to say that the number of uninsured Americans hasn't changed much over a ten year period. Does the lack of the decrease in the number of uninsured Americans make it O.K. to have a defunct health care system? You wonder about the ethics and morale of people such as Devon Herrick over at the National Center for Policy Analysis who states that "the proportion of uninsured Americans remained virtually unchanged, rising from 15.3 percent to 15.4 percent" as a reason why we don't need healthcare reform. So, just because the numbers haven't changed means that those affected don't want or need health insurance? Would the family with the sick child who can't receive health care services agree? What about the young woman who has been repeatedly denied screenings that will offer her a better quality of life?"Sample of Sources Used:
