A case study tracing a lawsuit filed against Yahoo Inc. by a French company for selling Nazi-era memorabilia on an English language auction site, and the countersuit made by Yahoo alleging that blocking access to neo-Nazi content would violate free speech. The paper discusses how the border-less nature of the internet raises issues for Yahoo Inc. such as conflicting laws and cultures of other countries, differing views on freedom of speech and suppression of objectionable material, ethical considerations and the impact of extraterritoriality.

From the Paper:

"Considering the goal of reaching social objectives, the problem affects its competitors and community it serves. A prime objective of a company is to maintain the social responsibility while maximizing return for shareholders. Penalties could be charged to the company for ignorance of the humanity; however, solutions, at the same time, may be costly to impair the freedom of speech. Likewise, competitors would want to see how Yahoo react to this charge as it will affect their business process and model in certain countries as well. Since the strength of Yahoo is its user base, if Yahoo fail to win this lawsuit, Yahoo's reputation as a socially responsible corporation will be ruined severely. As a result, they will lost their support and trust from the community and thus lost their market. "
