This paper discusses how Greek mythology was used by the ancient Greeks to tell the triumphant tales of their gods and heroes and how these myths were not only a part of the Greeks' everyday religion; they also showed the how the world came to be and how the Greeks would use the myths as a tool to comprehend and interpret the universe in human terms. Through examples of some of the more famous stories such as Homer's "The Iliad" and Hesiod's "Theogony", the paper looks at how Greek mythology attempts to investigate situations and examine contradictions and ambiguities.

From the Paper:

"The foundation of the Greek mythology dates back two civilizations before 1100 BC. The civilizations were the Mycenaean in the Greek mainland and the Minoans who occupied the island of Crete. The ancient beliefs of the Greeks were eventually blended with the myths legends from the various kingdoms and city-states of Greece. Everything put together evolved into a collection of tales acknowledged by most Greeks. Ancient Greece never came to be a unified empire. Instead, it was made up of several small kingdoms, which then in turn became city-states after about 800 B.C. The myths were passed on by word of mouth from one generation to the next, until the Classic Period where the stories were finally put down in a written form of word. "
