Description:

This paper reviews the "The Mongols in World History" website and details how this website is superb in terms of appeal, information, organization and design. The paper does point out minor inconsistencies but asserts that they do not diminish the elegance or utility of an otherwise outstanding website.

From the Paper:

"This website is beautifully done. The main page resembles a wall of oriental silk banners representing the broad subject-matter sections: Mongols in History, Mongol Conquests, Mongols in China, Key Figures, and Pastoral Life. As the mouse passes over each banner, the image changes to show a list of the key points covered in that section. Clicking on the banner takes you to the corresponding section, which is organized in an outline, "drill-down" format where each point is a clickable link. Clicking on a key point takes you to a page with a couple of paragraphs of text, sometimes an image, and often a reference or a link to another page. The option to "Print" or "Close" adds a functional efficiency; it allows you to easily move on or print right on the spot, facilitating research. When finished with the section, you can click a link to return to the main screen if you wish, but you're also provided the option to click directly to the next section.
"At the bottom of the main page is a series of links leading to supporting websites: Bibliography, Online Readings, Related Topics, Related Links, Class Materials, and Credits. Each of these brings up a smaller window without completely obscuring the original window; when you're finished viewing, you can close the smaller window, and you're still in the screen you were reading when you clicked the link."
