The paper discusses how the main character that suffers the most in the novel would be Raskolnikov, as he commits the direst of crimes when murdering the old pawnbroker and her sister. The paper shows how Sonya is also a character that suffers a great deal by being forced into prostitution because of her family's impoverished condition. However, the paper brings out how both of these characters begin to realize the crimes they commit were forced upon them by the corruption and impoverished society in which they live.
