Description:
This paper proposes acorrelation between the self-image held by the individual and the individual's response to prejudice. The paper explains that research demonstrates that persons who display a strong sense of self, especially in the areas of self-esteem, are more likely to display high degrees of resistance to prejudice. However, it is not fully known how comprehensive the protection given by a strong self-image can be, as the literature also shows that different types of prejudice affect a person with a strong self-image in different ways. This paper shall survey the literature on prejudice and self-image in the attempts to answer this question.
