This paper attempts to present a balanced discussion about legalizing gay marriage. Various outlooks are considered, particularly those of scholars who have analyzed this topic in recent years. Additionally, the paper exmines role of the American Constitution in interpreting whether gay marriage should be legalized. The paper concludes with the author stating a personal opinion about the issue of same-sex marriage.

"As it stands for equal rights for anyone, the Constitution does not specifically refer to the conditions that people have to fulfill in order to be permitted any moral performance. Thus, even though two people have the same backgrounds, the conditions that they are in are essential for deciding whether or not they should be granted a certain right. To a certain extent, gay marriages can be compared to interracial marriages, and, gay couples might believe that they would be treated unfair in comparison to interracial couples. The government has no advantage from preventing gay couples to marry just as normal people do. Thus, "discrimination against gay men and lesbians is instrumentally rational if the aim is making the lives of gay men and lesbians as unhappy as possible." (Seidman, 2008) Gay people can only perceive this as proof that the government is against them and is not willing to respect their rights as citizens."Sample of Sources Used:
