Description:

This paper explains that the addiction to online gambling is growing at an alarming rate not only because of the poor economy but also because of the additive powers of gambling combined with the Internet. Next, the author relates that online gambling creates highly stressful situations that often change a user's personality creating an addictive illness that, if its not treated, can affect negatively the gambler's entire life and that of his family. The paper underscores that the laws in the US, which have made online gambling illegal, have been created to urge people not to gamble online and to protect society from this unethical industry.

"Social relationships are negatively influenced by an addiction to online gambling because it provokes a change in the morals and values of an addict dealing with this addiction. When a user is over indulged in their dealings with financial troubles, the time and effort of maintaining healthy social relationships tends to be ignored or deprioritized. This is simply because the obsession of the addiction leads to carelessness for all other aspects of a healthy social life. This often leads to an unhealthy marriage or relationship of any type. The statistic that; the average rate of divorce for problem gamblers is nearly double that of non-gamblers, proves not so surprising considering the social problems presented by this addiction.
"Far surpassed by all the sentimental problems, online gambling reflects is the simplistic idea that it is against the law in this country. By making it illegal to operate in this country, it is clear that allowing users to partake in its operations (even if it is hosted in another country) is against computer ethics. Most credit card companies will not even allow users to collect winnings from internet gambling sites."
