"Jordan was born in Brooklyn and raised in North Carolina and his character has been refined by years of allegiance to the Chicago Bulls. He started playing basketball in high school and excelled in his senior year to the extent that he earned a scholarship to the University of North Carolina. The Chicago Bulls drafted Jordan to the NBA during the player's junior year in 1984, delaying but not suspending his college graduation. He was a first round draft pick, and one who quickly proved his merits to his team. Jordan's rookie season and subsequent years were nothing short of remarkable. Only one month after he started playing for the NBA, Jordan's photograph graced the cover of a Sports Illustrated issue. His prolific scoring and team spirit enabled the Bulls to win NBA championship titles after years of struggle. Jordan's personal merits include several regular season MVP awards and three straight Finals MVP awards. He also helped team America win gold medals in the 1984 and 1992 Olympics. Jordan retired in 1993, returned to the NBA in 1995, and then re-retired in 1999."
