Description:
This paper stresses that ADHD is not caused by bad parenting and that parents can use tactics, such as lots of love, clear communications and rewards and consequences for actions, to correct problem behaviors. Next, the author acknowledges that school can create numerous challenges for children with ADHD; however, with an effectual teaching plan, these child can thrive in the classroom. The paper underscores that, although medication can help decrease the symptoms of hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity in children with ADHA, these medications have some side effects and should not be the sole treatment.
From the Paper:
"Assisting children with ADHD follow instructions means taking measures to simplify and strengthen the steps involved in the instructions, and redirecting when required. Parents and teachers should try being very brief when giving instructions, letting the child to do one step at a time and wait for them to come back and ask for more. In case the child gets off track a calm reminder should be given in a stern voice. Whenever possible, write directions down in a bold marker or in colored chalk on a blackboard."Medication can help decrease the symptoms of hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity in children with ADHA. However, ADHD medications have some side effects and hence they are not the sole treatment for children with ADHD.
"Research indicates that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a healthy diet, regular exercise and good sleep and making certain other good life style choices can aid in helping a child with ADHD effectively. Both parents and patients with ADHD should have all the information on the treatment that they are seeking for ADHD, which can help in managing the symptoms more effectively."
