This paper takes a look at today's business ethics and examines whether or not diversity is truly an ethical issue in the modern business world. The paper finds that with the close public scrutiny on business ethics in the wake of the Enron debacle and other corporate scandals, a company that wishes to be trusted will act ethically. The paper further discusses how diversity is not just a bottom-line issue for businesses, but is certainly an ethical issue, too.

From the Paper:

"Diversity happens when a business, and organization, or an institution brings in and involves a variety of people from varied backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, ages, and religions. Basically, it means including as wide a variety of different types of people as possible in whatever it is that you are doing. In the last couple of decades, diversity has taken on a new driving force in the business world. Companies are going to great lengths to become what they view as "diverse." There is almost a manic quality about the drive for diversity that the business world has seen; corporate CEOs and other executives are clamoring to have their business seen as a diverse organization. Yet what is driving this push to diversify?
"The first thing to look at in studying this issue is why diversity has become such a big deal in the business world and other areas of society. To answer that question, one must first look at the Civil Rights movement, all the way back to the case of Brown vs. Board of Education. In this famous, landmark court case, the Supreme Court ruled that keeping the races separate was not treating them equally, as the Constitution required. Therefore, as a result of this case, all segregated schools and other public facilities had to desegregate right away (Raffel, 31). This desegregation was the beginning of the push for more diversity, and it began with a push from the Supreme Court itself."
