The paper discusses the global need for a war against terrorism and argues that a full-fledged world war against terrorism will, in fact, give further credence to the terrorists' activities. The paper contends that we must respond with compassion and generous, sustained humanitarian and development assistance to the suffering of the innocent peoples in different countries of the world.
From the Paper:"At this time, the world has come to be increasingly aware of the international financial and military strength of terrorists. It is clearer that terrorism has become global, no more confined to one country or region. The global nature of terrorism has limited the capacity of these states to deal with this menace on their own. There is a need for a worldwide campaign against terrorism; it has to be a different kind of war. People have to be convinced that the war is not against any particular religion, not a 'clash of civilizations'. The international community must also understand that there needs to be a more equitable world economic order not only between states, but also within states. Disparities between a small prosperous elite and the vast majority of people facing deprivation can become a breeding ground for extremist movements. Finally, states committed to fight a world war against terrorism have to be sincere about t heir commitment to democracy, secularism and respect for human values.
"The need of the hour is a world war against terrorism, but why it should only be against terrorism and not the innocent people. Humanity should not be targeted in this so-called struggle between the good and the evil. Otherwise, it would breed further terrorism. The world leaders should first try and come to terms with the collective anger of people spread across the globe in a peaceful manner."
