From the Paper:

"The 2012 French Presidential election results provided little surprise to the nearly eighty percent of voters that turned up to show support for their candidate of choice. The two men running for president of the European nation included France's president of five years and incumbent candidate, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Socialist candidate and political newcomer Francois Hollande. The race for presidency among the two candidates proved to be a heated one following the conclusion of the first round of voting on April 22 when neither individual was able to win an overwhelming majority of the French vote. However, Hollande's candidacy proved to be more alluring to French voters than five more years with their seasoned presidential candidate Sarkozy. After all was said and done, the campaign commercials had been run, speeches had been given, and promises had been made, incumbent candidate Nicolas Sarkozy was defeated by the Socialist candidate Francois Hollande in the second half of the French presidential election taking place in early May."
