Description:

The paper discusses how Hamlet is a disappointed idealist, and his feelings lead him to act in a destructive way towards everything in his life. The paper points out that because he is disillusioned with the cruelty of other people, Hamlet turns completely in the opposite direction, and becomes just as bad as the people he was originally criticizing, or, in fact, even worse. The paper emphasizes how Hamlet the disappointed idealist is a warning about the dangers of losing one's idealism.

From the Paper:

"Throughout William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, we discover the title character's idealistic hopes for the world and how they turn rotten. Hamlet is a man who wants everything to be as he thinks it should be in life, but because it is not, he is continually frustrated with himself and everyone else. Because of these troubles, Hamlet is not able to commit the revenge on his uncle that he is supposed to commit. He takes a long time to get around to this task, and while he is doing so he causes a number of innocent people to die. Hamlet's disappointment with the world, therefore, is responsible for a lot of trouble and death in the world. He is like a small child who cannot get what he wants, and instead of being content goes ahead and throws a tantrum. Unfortunately for those around him, Hamlet's tantrum has very destructive results."
