From the Paper:"In 1989 the world witnessed the dismantling of the Communism State, an event that has had ongoing significance and impact on worldwide economics, politics and international relations. The end of communism has helped to advance the project of globalization, and the events that have taken place since1989 have moved Canada and other nations of the world closer towards becoming a global marketplace. The term globalization has become a much over used word, one that few us really understand. What does the concept of globalization mean, and how has it influenced Canadian economic and social polices? As a nation that is now part of the so-called global economy, are there any viable alternatives to globalization for Canadian policy makers to consider?
"For nearly two decades Canada like other industrialized nations has been in the grips of globalization and the accompanying idealization of corporate identity and power. Canada's emergence as a global player in the process of globalization has added to the instability of the Canadian economic landscape, increased the Canadian unemployment rate. It has also resulted in an increased Canadian dependence on United States economic policy and the dismantling of the Canadian social welfare system that has been constructed since World War II. (Watkins, 1992)"
