"Postmodern architecture as exemplified in the writings and work of Peter Eisenman and Michael Graves, who take different approaches to the issues involved. Both see architecture as a form of communication with a language that must convey something to architects and public alike. As Conrads notes, the only motives for building are practical, to provide for human needs. Within that mandate, however, there are design considerations dictated by the zeitgeist of the time and personal views of design. Eisenman disagrees that it is possible for the architect to now at any given time whether a design fits with the zeitgeist, though it should be clear that the architect is influenced by the tenor of the time whether understanding how and why or not.
