"Often employees get bored or are uncertain of what their employee role actually is because the job roles have not been made clear. Confusion occurs and employees have trouble with other employees or get tired of the same old routine. "To retain people with critical skills for longer periods, companies need better mechanisms than compensations. One is job design" (Cappelli 2000). Companies should think about the tasks involved in the "job role" and consider retention strategies to keep key employees in those roles Research shows that "typical issues that cause dissatisfaction are company policies and procedures, quality of supervision, working conditions, relationship with the immediate supervisor and salary" (Myths 2003). Giving gifts and other incentives do not produce commitment from the employee. "All the extras don't add up to the real glue that creates employee commitment: the chance to learn and grow, meaningful work, good supervisors and respect and appreciation for a job well done" (Myths 2003)."
