In this article, the writer discusses that in the past decade there has been a focus on certain factors that have forced curriculum changes in education. The writer maintains that these factors have included the multicultural society, "real world learning" and poverty. The writer notes that 'Teaching Today' specifies that change has also been evident in relation to the introduction of computer technologies in the classroom, including the use of the Internet.
From the Paper:"It is evident that each of these factors has been the result of societal concern or societal change that has influenced how education is delivered. For example, the focus on poverty and the delivery of education became significant when, in 2001, President Bush signed into law the No Child Left Behind Act. The Act was intended to ensure that all children received a proper education, regardless of their culture, race or socioeconomic status. The issue of poverty was directly connected to education because it was known that millions of impoverished students graduated from the educational system without having the ability to read, write or accomplish simple mathematical skills. This, in the view of the government, prevented poor students from having any chance at overcoming poverty later in life."
